Edison Li came to the United States seeking freedom and opportunity. Soon after arriving, he realized how challenging it could be to adjust to a new life. Even everyday tasks – like going to the doctor – felt overwhelming.

“I had health insurance, but I didn’t know how to use it,” Edison recalls. “Everything was just so different.”

Edison’s journey with CASL began when he enrolled his son in the child development center. Through conversations with his son’s teacher, he learned about an employment opportunity at CASL. Today, Edison serves as the manager of citizenship and adult education programs.

He understands how difficult it can be starting over in the U.S., and he wants to connect people with resources so they can thrive. He reminds other immigrants: “You are not alone. Seek Support, keep learning and believe in your potential.”

With CASL’s support, community and little perseverance, Edison believes anyone can build a life they’re proud of.

Edison chuckles as he thinks back to when he first came to CASL.

“I was looking for childcare for my kids, then I found a job at CASL, and it opened the door for me to find my community. That’s amazing!”
